Thursday June 27- Single Session Intervention and Family Therapy
Presenters: Elyse Davies and Jane Maher
The first half of the presentation will discuss Single Session Intervention as a refreshing approach for practitioners based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. Research indicates that 60% of clients across all types of therapeutic approaches and contexts, will come for one session only. Sometimes the client gets what they need from a Single Session! Interestingly, however serious, fixed or chronic the problem behaviour, research indicates the more helpful a 'Single Session' or brief-therapeutic approach can be. Come along and learn how this collaborative approach can fit alongside your current practice, whilst invigorating you as a practitioner. I will have bring case-studies and video of this approach in practice, and how it might be implemented in your current work environment.
The second half of the presentation will explore how Family Therapy principles and practices can assist therapists understand how changing family relationship patterns, dynamics, stage of development and transitions can impact on your clients and your therapeutic approach. I hope to give you some practical techniques from various schools of family therapy to deal with issues that may impact on the whole family, helping to resolve them in a harmonious, positive and productive manner. I will use some role plays to demonstrate these principles with Crisalida therapist Jane Maher, who is currently undertaking her masters in Clinical Family Therapy.
